Starting today lets compounding do the heavy lifting. Even a modest SIP of ₹5,975 now beats a scramble later. A Relationship Manager can help you pick the right equity mix and rebalance as your child approaches college age.

Funding your child’s education — the number inflation quietly multiplies
Education is often a family’s largest goal after a home, and it has an uncomfortable feature: education inflation in India has historically run higher than general inflation. A professional degree that costs a certain amount today can cost far more by the time your child reaches college in 12–18 years — so planning in today’s fees badly understates what you will actually need.
This calculator grows today’s education cost by an inflation rate to your child’s college year, then works back to the monthly investment needed to get there given an expected return. The single biggest lever is time: starting when your child is young lets compounding do most of the work, so the required monthly amount stays manageable.
How this calculator works
- 1Enter the current cost of the education goal and the number of years until it is needed.
- 2Set an education-inflation rate to project the future cost, and an expected return on your investments.
- 3The calculator shows the future cost and the monthly SIP required to reach it.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I save for my child’s education?
Start from the future cost, not today’s. Take the current fee, grow it by an education-inflation rate (historically higher than general inflation) to the year you’ll need it, then work back to a monthly amount using an expected return. This calculator does that so you get a specific figure rather than a generic target.
What education-inflation rate should I use?
Education costs in India have often risen faster than headline inflation. A cautious plan uses a higher inflation rate for this goal than for general expenses, and it is safer to slightly over-estimate than to fall short when the fees are actually due. Test a couple of rates to see how sensitive the target is.
When should I start investing for it?
As early as possible. Because the goal is years away, starting when your child is young lets compounding carry most of the load, keeping the monthly amount affordable. Starting late means a much larger monthly commitment for the same target.
