Daily SIP vs monthly — does investing more often help?

A daily SIP invests a small amount every market day instead of one instalment a month. In theory this averages your purchase price over even more price points; in practice, over long horizons the difference in outcome between a daily and a monthly SIP is very small. The bigger effects on your corpus remain the amount, the return and the number of years — not the frequency.

This calculator projects a daily SIP and lets you compare it with an equivalent monthly one. Daily investing can suit people who find it easier to invest tiny amounts continuously, or who want their investing to mirror a daily income — but nobody should expect it to meaningfully out-earn a disciplined monthly SIP.

How this calculator works

  • 1Enter your daily investment amount, expected return and horizon.
  • 2The calculator compounds the daily contributions over the period.
  • 3Compare the result with a monthly SIP of the same total amount.

Frequently asked questions

Is a daily SIP better than a monthly SIP?

Only marginally, if at all, over long horizons. A daily SIP averages your cost across more price points, but the smoothing benefit is small and is swamped by the effects of amount, return and time. Choose the frequency that best fits your cash flow and discipline — a consistent monthly SIP is perfectly effective.

Does SIP frequency really change the outcome much?

Not much. Whether you invest daily, weekly or monthly, the dominant drivers of your final corpus are how much you invest, the return you earn and how long you stay invested. Frequency is a convenience choice more than a returns lever.

Who might prefer a daily SIP?

Someone who earns or budgets daily, or who psychologically finds it easier to invest small amounts continuously rather than a single larger monthly sum. For most salaried investors, a monthly SIP aligned with payday is simpler and works just as well.
